So here we are, almost four years after I started it, DONE! The Not-So-Irish-Chain quilt is complete!
I am inordinately proud of this thing. Every stitch on it, without exception, was placed there by my hand. OK, I will stop going on about that but really, it’s the thing I’m proudest of, even in light of my recent resolution not to be so fetishistic about hand-quilting.
That’s me, holding it on the back step of Edna’s house. I am eerily disembodied – even for me
Its completion was slightly delayed because I realized I couldn’t get away with not quilting the borders. Needless to say, I am very glad that I did.
This coming weekend I will attend my first quilt retreat with my guild and I will hopefully make significant headway on the next quilt in the line-up, the Cottage Quilt. I certainly hope that no quilt will ever take me (almost) four years to complete.

Congratulations, Mimi! Your quilt is beautiful. You should be very, very proud. Have fun at your retreat. Can’t wait to see the Cottage Quilt – even if I have to wait four years until it’s unveiling.

Beautiful job! You should be so proud. You will have years to enjoy snuggling with this beautiful quilt, so the 4 years is really minimal.

Beautiful, Mimi. It has taken me nearly this long to do my machine-made quilt. Lovely, lovely. Nothing quite catches light and has the feel of hand quilting.

Yay for finished objects! Some things just take time to finish. The quilting on the binding is beautiful. Maybe you’ll inspire me to pull my albatross-quilt out of the closet and work on it.

Congratulations – my resent project is in it’s 6th year, so 4 years is good in my book
